Lets not mess around here guys. I really bloody well like this stuff. Honestly. It's pretty wicked.
I'm a bit funny with face masks. Some of them seem to actually make my skin worse. I'm no expert and I'm sure some people would tell me that if I use a mask and I get a break out afterwards it's because the mask has drawn all the impurities to the surface or some shit like that... and yeah... maybe they are right... but guess what?! I DON'T WANNA USE A MASK AND END UP WITH MORE SPOTS THAN I HAD BEFORE DAMMIT! Ha! Sorry! It's just that usually I end up using masks when I'm trying to get my skin to behave because it's really throwing a tantrum and if I slap one on and am greeted with a face full of extra pimples come morning I'm not going to be best pleased am I?
It's probably on me really. My bad. I don't use them as often as I should. However, I'd also say there have definitely been some that I've used and just haven't got on with at all. Sensitive skin is such fun eh? Thankfully this bad boy from Una Brennan seems to be a different story.
This mask is refreshing, cleansing and calming. There's no stinging, no warming, nothing that makes me feel slightly iffy about it being on my mug. You just pop it on for 10 minutes, the thick but easily spreadable pale green clay will dry but not crack, and then rinse off with warm water and a clean flannel. Just a note from my own experience - as the mask does harden I rest a warm flannel against areas of my face to soften it again before then using light circular motions to wash it off so I'm not dragging my skin all over the shop or scrubbing at it too hard.
After use I feel like my skin is a little plumper, definitely softer, and that my blemishes have been reduced slightly. Like it's taken some of the anger out of them or something. Ha. I really do think it helps my skin on the whole and try and use it twice a week.
Also it smells pretty damn good for a face mask. Especially a clay face mask, which can sometimes be real pungent! It smells relaxing. That makes no sense. I just cant think how else to describe it. It's a fresh and clean but also kind of soothing scent. Nice.
It's not overly pricey normally at around £8.99 but Boots often seem to have it on sale for £5.99 so I just grab a couple when the offer is on.
So there we go. A cupboard staple of mine suitable (or so it would seem) for sensitive skins that won't break the bank.
Later's on the Men-Jays. xxx
Hey Janna,
ReplyDeleteWould you say the mask works from the first go at using it or does it take a few days to start to see any improvements such as calming of blemishes etc? Can't believe there may be a mask that works and doesn't cost an insane amount!
Ali x
I'd say it calms from first use. When I say calms I don't mean it totally makes the little buggers disappear, but it does seem to reduce any that are especially inflamed or throbbing. After a few uses I do feel like my skin is a little clearer, definitely a lot softer and kinda brighter, refreshed might be a good description. xxx
DeleteThanks Janna! Going to give this a try. Fingers crossed it makes my skin a little clearer. xxx
DeleteYou are obviously reading my diary, Cuz this morning I woke up with a mean huge zit on my chin, and thought to myself "this better be fudging gone by next weekend" (gots me a wedding) so thank you for this! I have been blessed with decent skin, but at times it decides to retaliate against me. I'll have to give this a whirl! I've never really done mud masks, but as I get older I'm thinking I'll have to rethink that.
ReplyDeleteThanks again! Love reading your blog :)
Ashley x
haha! Cheers Ashley! If your trying to rid yourself of a pesky zit (sounds hormonal if its on your chinny chin chin) then masks are good for overall complexion loving but you might be better off with a topical treatment? There's a bunch out there, just depends on if your one who likes to dry the thing up or massages / moisture it away! Check out Caroline Hirons cheat sheet for some tips: http://www.carolinehirons.com/2013/11/sudden-breakouts-what-to-do-and-what-to.html xxx
DeleteWell thanks! As you can tell I'm a total noob when it comes to skin care. So this blog helps a sister out, and makes me feel like I can understand what your telling me. So thanks again, I'll be checking it out ASAP :)

Damn, I so wish Una Brennan was available in Australia! I hear soooo many raves about her range. This mask sounds super great, and I get ya, ain't nobody got time for "bringing impurities to the surface"! Haha even though it makes sense, it's hella annoying!
ReplyDeleteTasha // shiwashiful.
Hella annoying ain't the half of it! I hate it. How long are you supposed to give this shizzle before deciding 'actually no... this just breaks me out'. ? Grrrr. Damn it not being available over there! I bet you've got a wicked range of shit going on though! x
DeleteYou read my mind...I find it so annoying if products that should help you, makes your skin way worse then it already is.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you remember but I replied to your 'Pizza Face' post and said that I found some stuff so that my Skin is looking quite allright...well, I shouldn't have written that :DD
I've got sensitive quite along with some redness on top of the blemishes (yeah-jackpot!!) and still on the hunt of a mask that could help with that, I think I should give this one a go. I tried the Origins Out Of Trouble Mask and the Clear Improvement Mask-not only are they bloody expensive but haven't had any positive effect on my Skin, I was so disappointed!
Anyway, enough of that,
hope you'll have a nice week,
Elli X
EDIT: Could you tell me what Foundation you're using? :)
DeleteHey Ellie.
DeleteI don't rate the origins masks overly either. Maybe the Overnight Moisture if you have dry skin thats not prone to breakouts but not a fan of the Out of Trouble.
I use Mac Studio Fix... which I shouldn't really. It's probably really fucking bad for my skin. It's just the only thing that covers all my shit without having to be topped up on the regular. I wouldn't recommend it for acne prone skin really. Silly Janna. x
I cannot wait to try this, I have moved down to London from Manchester(ish) and I have noticed that the pollution down here just ruins my skin! Do you think this product would help that? Or do you have any cleanser/toner combos that you could recommend?
ReplyDeleteLucy :)
Hey Hey Lucy,
DeleteYeah pollution is no good eh? I moved here from Surrey and sometimes I feel like i'm constantly wondering round with a layer of filth over myself. bluuurgh. It's not a mask targeted at solution... but clay in general is wicked for cleansing so might do! Make sure you are drinking a fuck load of water to get the shizzle outta your system!
Cleanser / Toners take a look back at my body shop post on the camomile oil and aloe toner. A nice little combo there :) x
Amazing thank you! I have been giving this a go and it definitely makes my skin softer and I have seen a reduction in blemishes so definitely glad I came across it!
DeleteI think my skin is starting to get a bit more used to the crappy air now but I will definitely be upping my water game.
Will definitely have a nosy back at your body shop post! x
