Oil Burners Be Bitchin'

I hate oil. It's the bane of my life. Chin, nose, forehead. SHINEY SHINEY. Ick. Powder that shit out! N' what do we all wish we could do to things that we hate... yeah that's right... BURN THEM. BURN THEM WITH FIRE.

Let me explain... 

I'm a total candle addict. Love them. I've always been a candle lover. I had a candle collection when I was a kid. No Joke. Braces, Glasses, one of those special 'back friendly' school backpacks and a candle collection. Didn't have a chance really did I?

Anyway... in recent years it's scented candles that have really been ma' thing. Probably down to moving out of my parents and into houseshares, resulting in being suddenly plagued by the interesting smells of other peoples cooking, the stale odour of tenants past and musty mould ridden corners. Ha!

Now scented candles are great, but sometimes the aroma they release just isn't all that strong, and sometimes it needs to be, and it needs to be FAST. If some fucker is cooking salmon downstairs and my third floor room starts to whiff like the back end of a fish market then I need to mask that shizzle quick. The way to do this... Oil Burners my friends! OIL BURNERS!

It was my bezza mate that first got me into these fabtastic little things. She's even bigger on candles and burny yummy smelly yums than me. Her room always smells like some sort of summery meadow filled with Chanel and fairy farts. Or what I imagine fairy farts might smell like. I asked her how she got the place smelling so damn good and it emerged that along with the candles she had a bunch of oil burners dotted about the place.

ENABLER. Ahem.

I picked mine up from the Body Shop but you can buy them all over the place. Most supermarkets, I reckon nearly all department stores and the home section of TK Maxx would be good places to start. I just fancied a nice plain white one and Body Shop came through. They also sell reasonably priced oils which was a big bonus, £4.00 a pop! Not too shabby when one little bottle lasts for absolutely ages!

You just whack a little bit of water in the top of the burner, add a few drops of the oil and then light a tea light underneath. Eh Voila! you've created an instant nasal haven!

So far I've tried Green Tea & Lemon and Aloe & Soft Linen. I prefer the latter I think, smells slightly more homely, nice for the bedroom. Green Tea & Lemon is better suited to a dining room / open floor lounge / kitchen. That sort of thing.

I've got my nose on the Pomegranate & Raspberry or Jasmin & White Frangipani varieties next and I'll be looking elsewhere for some winter friendly flavours (?) in the next few months for sure.

So yeah. There we go. Candles are cool but burners are also pretty bitchin' people! xxx

*Quick note to all, I love my housemates and generally we all smell pretty good. I did however, in recent history, live with a Russian that insisted on cooking copious amounts of stinking fish in our ground floor flat that had no widows and an open the kitchen/lounge area. He was also naked or only clothed in a towel for 90% of his time in the house. Naked Russians people. Not cool.*
