Tea. It's awesome right? Solves many problems (or at least lessens the pain of some situations), warms the body, soul and provides a great accompaniment to biccys. Now there's way more on offer than your standard 'English Breakfast' variety and I figured I'd let you know the sort of thing I've been enjoying recently.
You guys are aware of my on going skin situation right? Well everyone knows the important of drinking a hell of a lot of water when it comes to flushing out toxins but I've also read, on numerous occasions, the benefits of drinking hot water with lemon juice and thought I'd give it a go. I started a few months ago and haven't looked back since. I grab a big mug of hot water and squeeze half a lemon into it first thing most mornings. I don't know if all the shizzle about it 'waking up your system and flushing through your kidneys' is bullcrap or not but it's damn refreshing and I kind feel like I'm getting some benefit even if it is all in my head.
Ok. So tea two doesn't contain any real health benefits as far as I'm aware but daaaaamn is this stuff good. Fresh mint and boiling hot water. Easy right? I just pop a few leaves into a mug, add the boiling water and give it a bit of a stir. Tip: making sure the leaves are fully submerged in the water stops them 'scorching'. That's not a technical term it's just what I call it. Basically if part of the leaf isn't in water it goes a darker colour and sort of goes funny and dry. This doesn't seem to effect the taste at all but it's not overly attractive. Anyway... take the leaves out, leave them in, it doesn't matter. I do both. Depends how lazy I'm feeling to be honest. ha!
Another couple of favourites of mine are a good Chai and Green Tea with Lemon. Both of these are pretty distinctive flavours and I'd say 'try before you buy' where possible.
Chai is a blend of black tea plus cinnamon, cloves and a bit of ginger. Having been to India last year I can say it's not true to the chai you get on the streets of Dehli but it's still real tasty. I drink this more in winter than summer, it feels kind of christmasy to me. Best with milk and a little sugar (usually I don't take sugar but it really brings out the flavour in this case), I tend to go for Twinings Chai, just my preferred (and reasonably priced) option.
Green tea is the absolute bomb. Full of antioxidants and general wicked awesomeness you can't go wrong with this little guy (though it is worth remembering that it's naturally high in caffeine!). I love green tea as is but there's something about the aroma of the Clipper Green Tea With Lemon that just gets me. Adding the citrus aspect makes it slightly lighter on the pallet. S'good. Give it a go.
A further notable mention is the good ol' Camomile, my go to for winding down before bed. A flowery, earthy, calming cuppa. Camomile tea bags are widely available and in my opinion the brand isn't really an issue, I just grab whatever's on offer.

Finally, if I'm out and about then I'll often opt for 'Raspberry Leaf', there's a cracking pub up the road from me that has an awesome selection of tea's (oh and an amazing in house bakery, DANGEROUS!) and this is always my first choice. It's floral and fruity but not sweet. Again... probably rather a selective taste but I'd really recommend giving it a go.
There ya go guys. Sunday waffle over. Pointless little post but thought I'd shove it up in case you were interested. Remember to take ten minutes with some tea and let your brain chill at least once a day. Down time is important my little chums! xxx
Absolutly adore tea and could never live withoute it. Same goes for my morning cup of hot water with lemon. I lovo all types of tea, at the moment I am drinking Chai non stop as its winter here, and Chai is just amazing in the winter.
ReplyDeletePS. By the way, if you are a big green tea drinker (as I am) its always good to try to fave a big glass of water per every cup of green tea, as it has a tendency to dehydrate you.
I also love Yerba Mate Tea. If you can get it in England, you must try it. Its like natures Red Bull. Its amazing, gives you energy without that jittery feeling that coffeee gives. Let me know if you get to try it!
Deleteooooooh. I like the sound of this Yerba Mate stuff. Is there a particular brand you'd recommend? Thanks for the tip on a glass of H2O before the green tea too! I'd never heard this before so I'll definitely be taking it on board. Thank you love! x
DeleteAny brand should be good, as long as it comes from South America (where the plant naturally grows. I hope you can find it in London, if you can't, just let me know and I will send you some! Keep me posted if you get to try it.
DeleteHave a nice weekend Chum
Elisa

I went over an had a peak! Lovely blog my dear! Gorgeous piccys. Totally adding mint to my lemon, honey & ginger next time I'm sofa bound with a hot water bottle :) x
DeleteThanks for the Sunday post :) I am a big believer and eternal lover of anything tea after my visit to China. I'd like to consider myself an amateur herbalist and avid Teavana shopper. There is always so much to learn and way more to try. That's why i love this post! I will have to try the lemon and mint leaves, MIND BLOWN. Sounds insanely refreshing. Thanks again, Cheers xx
ReplyDeleteI'd bloody love to head to China! Any country that involves a crazy culture shock is worth a visit. You just learn so much right?! I bet it was aaaamazing! Fresh lemon in the morning pal... it's totally a winner. xxx
DeleteI'd love to go. Really love to go. Hope I get the chance one day :)
ReplyDeleteThe PeePee boy is hilarious! haha! Want! x
Funnily enough I'm sitting down with a cuppa to have a little catch up with your posts - Twinings orange, cinnamon and mango (discovered bizarrely enough in an Irish pub in Amsterdam after a much needed breakfast...) really love Twinings green tea and lemon too. Their green tea and salted carmel is next on my list. I seem to be having a Twinings love affair, I do like other brands I swear!!
ReplyDeleteLoving your work lovely!
Dee x
Thank you Dee! I've got a weird aversion to Mango. An ex used to drink apple & mango juice by the gallon... maybe its a funny subconscious thing. Haha!
DeleteSalted caramel tea?!? Lord! let me know how that turns out! x
Its funny what certain things remind you of, for me its Sangria... can't drink the stuff and even if anyone mentions it I get that eughhh.. I'm very intrigued by the salted caramel green tea, there's also caramelised apple and ginger bread, who knew there was so many flavoured green teas!
DeleteDee x
Thats a whole bunch of flavours I never knew existed!
Deleteoh and Cinnamon flavour aftershock.... NOPE NOPE.
