Vichy Derma Blend Corrective Stick

Okie Dokie. So. Acne. Those of you regularly visiting this little slice of inter-pie know that it's pretty much the bane of my existence. Well.. acne and rogue red socks sneaking their way into whites washes.

I hate pink.

Anyway... I'm always on the look out for ways to mask the mess of marks over my cheeks, chin and forehead and Vichy's Derma Blend Corrective Stick looked like it might be right up my street...

Essentially the Corrective Stick is an extremely high coverage concealer. It's super thick and creamy formula is (according to Vichy) 'Water and perspiration resistant, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-perfumed aaaaand SPF 30'.

Vichy claims it covers spots, dark circles, scars, rosacea, tattoos and hyper-pigmentation. It does. It actually does. I mean... I would really wouldn't it... being all crazy super heavy coverage and all. The issue is it doesn't do it overly well.

Firstly, the colours available aren't great. They have actually repackaged and shifted the colour range slightly (now with even less choice) since I brought mine a while ago. I found even their lightest shade to be slightly too dark on my pale skin and rather orangey.

Secondly it's really drying. My skin is pretty all over the place but whereever I apply the corrective stick, by it on an oily patch or a dry area it will collect around the blemish /spot / healing scar and look really flakey and obvious after only an hour or so.

Last up on the negatron side of things (TRANSFORMERS! ROBOTS IN DISGUISE! ahem. sorry.) is that this stuff doesn't seem to last. It looks pretty good when first applied, covers what needs to be covered and such, but I'll then shove my foundation on over the top (and yeah I tried the other way around and that was a no go) and it'll go sort of patchy very quickly, and like I said, gather in an really blatant 'this is a spot I had but tried to cover up' way around all imperfections.

One redeeming feature is that it works pretty well as an under eye concealer. In my experience it stays put under my peepers much longer than on any form of lurking lurker.  Not really what I was investing in the little bugger for though.

Oh wait... bonus round! It also costs £15. Bit steep eh? So yeah. Not excellent really. Meh.

Onward and upward. To the moon I say! The moon! xxx

  1. So glad you did the post! I have been thinking about trying this but I hate when concealers or foundations are drying and look flaky, ew!
    Thanks for the post!

    1. No worries Tori! The quest continues for a wicked concealer. In the meantime I'll be relying on my collection lasting perfecting ;) x

  2. Mhmm, acne and the little scar friends they leave behind are also the bane of my existence. Sad to hear this didn't work out! I have heard a lot of people liking the liquid version though? Idk, the one that comes in the tube?

    1. Yeah I've read that the liquid version is far preferable. Not invested myself yet as this stick version was so 'blah'. Will of course update if I do decide to give it a go though! x

    2. I have tried the liquid version of it: the colour range isn't that great either, I think there are 4 or 5 shades available. I've got 15 Opal (what are you in MAC products?). My skin is combination, dry patches at some places, shiny throughout the day and it's one of the best things I've tried so far. It last quite Long, I'd say around 10 hours, it can get a bit powdery (?? What am I trying to say??) and has got a matt finish. You don't need much and if you don't wan to use it as a foundation, People say you can use it as a concealer, too.
I use a moisterizer and primer underneath it, I find it dries out wíthout it. The opacity is normal to high, it covers scars and spots, there are Videos on YouTube from the Pixiwoo's and Tanya Burr how they apply it.

I've got really bad dark circles, would you they the pink shade would be good for that or are there better concealers for it!

Hope you'll have a great week,

      Elli X

P.S.: Was your GP able to help you?

    3. NC15 ... naturally. Pale Pale Ghost Pale. haha.

It's alright for dark circles, though the collection lasting perfecting concelaer does the job just as well and is super cheap!

Think I'm about to start Roaccutane... eep. x

    4. I'm a mix of NC15 and 20, it should work for you colourwise but you'll never know. Maybe you can get a sample or something like that, it's in the same price range, nothing for trial and error...

I'm sticking to the collection then, it's one of the best (if not the best for the Price)- do they have 2 shades for Medium and was I hallucinating?

I heard about Roaccutane, hopi it'll work for you and you'll get along with it!! Fingers crossed!!

  3. Oookay, I seriously thought about buying this product (living in france it's super easy for me to find it) but looks like I won't anymore haha. I'm stupid though because I love my prolongwear concealer but I always find myself looking for something even better.
Never satisfied enough, that's the problem of makeup lovers haha
Do you know a good mattifying powder, like REALLY mattifying? I struggle to find a long-lasting powder that would do the job for my discoball inspired nose and forehead.

    1. Grass is always greener eh?!

Powder - either the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder or the Mac Prep & Prime Powder are both really good (different ends of the price spectrum too!)

Aaaaalso... no idea how easy they will be to get hold of in France but the oil blotting papers from Muji or Kleenex are pretty damn good for shiny shiny! x
