Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil & Aloe Toner

The body shop isn't a place I'd immediately head to when thinking of skincare, but in seeking out a toner and a hardcore make remover that would be suitable for sensitive skin I came across a couple of seriously recommended products and a 50% off sale and well... who can resist that eh?

Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

Removing make up is a pain in the bumhole. Now I know that its my choice to shove a whole bunch of crap onto my mug almost everyday and removing the bloody stuff comes with the territory but it still fucking sucks.

When I was a teenage I was all over remover wipes *GASP* I know! I didn't know any better. I was young. Foolish. Naive. These days however, with my skin in its current state, acne ridden and sensitive, I've thrown those harsh, ineffective rags by the wayside and spent some time looking for a face friendlier alternative.

Whilst Bioderma is my general go to (>> see previous post <<), if I'm wearing more make up than usual (night out, extra bad skin day, waterproof mascara etc), I want something that can handle all that slap without using up half a pack of cotton pads.

I've tried all sorts of options, the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, various offerings from REN and of course the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser, nothing agreed with me. My skin was just not having any of it. When.... dun da da duuuuuun...

ENTER THE BODY SHOP.

The Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil is really rather heavenly. It truly is a make up removal dream. Ridiculously effective at banishing even the toughest make up and super gentle on sensitive skin.
It's got a slight camomile scent which is lovely and calming and it leaves me skin feel soft and smooth.

I tend to use just one or two pumps which I massage first over my nose, cheeks, chin, forehead and finally my eye area (this avoids spreading the inevitable black mess from my mascara all over my face). I then rinse off thoroughly with warm water and a clean flannel. Usually I second cleanse with a non-oil based product just to ensure that there is no oily residue left on my skin. And that's about it really. Well done body shop. You done good.

Toner. It's not something I've used before. To be honest with my skin being the absolute dickhole it is I've just kept my routine to a bare minimum the past year or so. I don't want to give it any more reason to go haywire than it has already. However I figured it was probably time to man up and move on, live a little, try something new. I did some reason on sensitive skin friendly offerings and, as mentioned, there was handy discount code floating about so... BAM! Trial sized bottle of toner for less than a glass of wine.

I'm not sure what to say about this toner. It didn't aggravate my skin. It did feel lovely and refreshing. It was a nice 30 second step to shove into my morning routine and I sort of convinced myself that it was 'prepping' my skin for moisturiser/make up. It didn't totally rock my world but I'd probably repurchase it. That's not overly helpful is it? Basically, if you are looking for a reasonably priced, sensitive skin friendly toner then yeah, go for it. Trying it out is an option as they do a handy 'trial size (60ml for £3) Wahhey!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

  1. Haven't tried much from Body Shop (just because there's Lush 20 metres from the shop in my area) but from the little that I have had - I didn't mind it at all! Skin-friendly, smells heavenly, not even that pricy and sales often, well, I like! My current favourite by them is coconut hand cleanse gel - and I'm not really into those gels but this one is simply awesome + the smell, ah!

As I don't use too much of make-up recently and definitely don't plan that for summer, I still rock cleasing wipes (by BS, actually) - I guess I'm lucky my skin is not a bitch to me. However, I plan on picking some good make-up for autumn and laters, I'm definitely considering cleasing oil (rather than water but don't know, will see what I find) - guess I'll try. Thanks for the tip! :)

    1. Hey Leña!

Oooh the coconut hand gel sounds luuuurvely. I've always got some antibac gel in my bag (London is essentially a cesspit). I'm absolutely go to hunt that down!

If cleansing wipes work for you then girl you go for it! I wish my skin could take it. I'm a lazy bugger and the thought of reaching down to grab a wipe rather than trailing my arse to the sink is wonderful! Alas, t'is but a dream! Hope you get on with the oil if you decide to try it! :)

  2. This cleansing oil is MY JAM. Amazing product at an awesome price. IN FACT, I mentioned it in my May Favorites video if you want to check it out ::shameless self plug:: I haven't tried BS's toner but I'm a big fan of Lush's Tea Tree Water toner -- it's natural, alcohol-free & anti-bacterial (I just mist it all over my face instead of using cotton pads).

    1. Ahhh Maggie you lovely little star of a person!

I'm happy to be back... sort of... *enter disclaimer about weirdly timed posts here*

I think I might have to give that Tea Tree toner a chance! I've recently been giving the pixi glow tonic a go (review to follow) but not sure it's working for me *weeps*.

I'll check out your video asap for sure girl! xxx

  3. I've got quite a sensitive skin too so will defo give this a try, and even if I'm long past my teens, still suffer from acne, thought I'd be get rid of this in adult life but not to be... One product that my skin reacts well too is the aloe face and soap, leaves the skin soft and not dry at all, massive bottle that last for ages!
Anyway, thanks for tip as I'm not into wipes either :)

    1. Nice to know you aren't alone with Adult Acne eh? There's are time when I practically use it as part of my introduction... 'oh hey! I'm Janna and yeah.. sorry about my skin, Acne. It's a bitch.' It's like I'm just getting the acknowledgment out of the way so I can move on and enjoy myself. ha! I'll check out the face & soap for sure :) Thank you!

  4. I have been hearing really good things about the Cleansing oil! I started using one rather recently and love the concept for removing pretty much all my makeup. I've also heard the Sumptuous cleansing butter from the same range is pretty good too! I agree about toner, I never really feel like it's doing an awful lot, but I use one anyway!

    1. I'm really keen to try the cleansing butter! I feel like it might travel a whole lot better than the oil which would be a big bonus. Currently I'm terrified of a slippery mess emerging from my luggage if I dare the oil away with me. haha!

Oh we are but slaves to the industry eh? I'm going to keep investigating toner I think. I'll keep you posted ;)

  5. The Body Shop Oil sounds amazing. I will see if I can get my hands on it, when I go to the US in a few weeks. Have you tried Pure Extra Virgin Coconut Oil? Its amazing for makeup removal and cleansing, has antibacterial properties, and woorks really well. Even Caroline Hirons aproves *all hail Lady Hirons*
Its definetly worth a try and if it does not work out, you can always use it for making stirfry!!
