Mac - Brush Cleanser

I clean my make up brushes once a week, sometimes once every few days, to be honest it depends purely on how jam-packed my schedule it. It doesn't take all that long, and I honestly don't mind doing it, sometimes however I need a quick fix and that, my pals, is when a good ol' spot cleanse is the one!

I picked up this brush cleanser from Mac freakin' aaaaages ago, it's been over a year for sure, and as you can see there's still a bunch left. Reason being that I don't use it all that much if I can help it. It's alcohol heavy which is seriously drying on poor wee innocent brushes, and though it contains wheat protein to help condition hairs, it's not ideal.

However for the odd spot cleanse it's wicked. Pop a little onto a cotton pad or some kitchen towel and swirl brushes about until clean. Oh and that alcohol I mentioned earlier means that the brush dries really quickly, mighty handy if you need to use the same brush for a couple of products in immediate succession.

So yeah at £11.00 this stuff isn't cheap and I'm still all over Dr Bronner for a real cleanse, but if you're only using this pink potion occasionally like myself then it's a decent investment.

If any of you darlings have any suggestions for brush cleansers give me a shout!
Always on the look out for wicked new bits and bobs.

Sex and spot checks my lovely pals. xxx

  1. So, now I feel like an awful brush owner. I regularly deep clean my brushes but in between regular washes I just use alcohol to clean them (the horror, I know!). BUT, it gets all of the pigment out of them and kills all of the bacteria and nasties. I find that as most of my brushes are synthetic fibers (all hail Real Techniques) it doesn’t really matter using a stronger product to clean them. However, with that being said, I have a few Wayne Goss brushes (which are feckin’ fantastic by the way) which are made with amazing natural bristles and I never use alcohol/brush cleaner on those, only a mild baby shampoo. I will check out the MAC brush cleaner, it sound like a nice product and is probably gentler than using rubbing alcohol and you can always Back to MAC that bottle.
    Have a nice weekend Chum!

    1. * HANDS IN THE AIR * Real Techniques are wiiiiicked.

I'm a doctor bronner fan for cleaning. They have a mild and gentle version I'm using at the moment and it's seriously good without being harsh on my brushes.

I've got a stash of back to mac shizzle waiting to go. I think I've got 2 more things left to finish and then I'm in there! BOOM! x

  2. I use baby shampoo to clean mine, the majority of mine are Real Techniques and Zoeva.
Have you noticed a difference with the brushes..like do they get less soft or something like that? If not, I'll give a go..I really need something to clean after using them. Probs better for the skin anyway.
And 11 is not that bad, I though it being MAC it'll be more expensive..

    1. Why did my reply not post? Grrrrr!

Baby shampoo is pretty good stuff. I just worry about it coming into contact with my face. Silly really. I haven't noticed a difference in the brushes. But I do only use it to spot clean. I'd not use it regularly for fear that it might dry them out.

I guess that would be an excuse to buy more...

  3. Love the MAC brush cleanser, nearly out but thankfully remembered to pick one up passing through duty free last month! Find it really good for eye make up brushes but a bit crap for foundation you just seem to waste so much! Have recently been mixing a little surgical spirits and anti bacterial handwash and it seems to be getting the gunk out. Other then that you can't beat baby shampoo!!

    1. Baby shampoo is always a go to. Though I stopped using it when I found Doctor Bronner. I just feel safer about using it on something I use on my skin daily. Duno why. Just being silly probably. I don't tend to use the Mac one on foundations either but its spot on for the ol' eye makeup! x

  4. Hey there, I just want to say I ♡ your blog! last year I started reading it but kind of forgot about it (sorry I don't know why)....until yesterday. I suddenly had a flashback and wondered what happend to your blog? So I checked it out again and I instantly knew why I used to love it. Your way of writing and the mix of beauty, music, food and so on is inspirational and just hilarious. It is so entertaining and for me today a good reason to avoid stuff I actualy have to do (as a pro in procrastination I am always looking for this little distracions ;))

So just thank you for keeping this blog up and running and I will definitly not gonna forget about it again!
